Campbell Croft Basilisk Lizard Note Card

$2.75

Of all the creatures in the Fold, few took such delight in a dinner invitation as Campbell Croft Basilisk Lizard. The rustle of an envelope through the post was enough to make his whip-like tail flicker with anticipation. But it was not just any envelope that sent him running to the mail slot —no, no. Campbell absolutely revelled in a certain kind: thick, creamy parchment, sealed with wax, and oh-so delicately scented with its lavender ink. Exquisitely lettered by hand, with soaring loops and dramatic ascenders. The stamp? Curated, of course. Preferably commemorative.

Upon receipt, he would press the letter to his chest, inhale deeply, and promptly set about preparing.

He brushed up on current events, historical curiosities, seasonal trivia, and all the most amusing anecdotes one could fit between courses. He polished his knife. He polished his fork. He polished his spoon. He practiced his posture in the mirror (dashing).

Campbell Croft was no ordinary dinner guest. He was, in every way, the ideal companion at the table. Thoughtful, charming, never one to interrupt—unless the interruption was a gasp at a particularly interesting tidbit.

Until... dinner was served.  And then the transformation began.

With the clatter of a ladle or the rustle of a soufflé emerging from the oven, Campbell's eyes would widen, his toes would curl ever so slightly, and a curious hum—a sort of pre-gobble murmur—would escape his throat.

Salad? Gone.

Soup? Slurped.

Main? Disappeared with theatrical flair.

Dessert? Reduced to memory.

Campbell would tuck in with the focused grace of a creature who revered food not just as sustenance, but as experience. Each bite was a ballet. Each lick of the plate, a performance. And while his hosts were left blinking in wonder (and feeling oddly complimented), they could never begrudge him the feast.

In the end, Campbell Croft Basilisk Lizard consumed with gusto. But always, through the most resplendent thank-you notes, Campbell gave back in ink - word by word - the joy he had taken in bites.
